Going Away Party

Saturday night was our Going Away Party....
While I am SO excited about the adventures ahead, I can't help but be sad about all of the wonderful people I am leaving behind!
Jake & I decided to put together a party so that we could get together all of our friends.
We had friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even some of the guys J deployed with 6 years ago over.
It was certainly a fun night!

THE MENU

I froze lemon slices with water in a muffin pan for extra large ice cubes in the lemonade

For Appetizers I wanted a little variety!
We had fruit skewers, veggie cups, and Mini Tacos (my fav!!)

For dinner we ate catered Chick-fil-A nuggets, roasted red potatoes & my mom's "world famous mac and cheese!"

And of course dessert- the best part :)

Let me just tell you, EASY and DELISH!
Jake is a huge cookie cake fan and I have tried MANY recipes. This is by far his favorite and it is by far the easiest. Literally four ingredients and you pop it in the oven!

A big thanks to all of our friends that came out!
We will see you Californians again before you know it :)

Let (U.S.) Remember...

This is a day to reflect over the past 11 years...

I remember learning about the attacks in my 6th grade Reading class. I didn't know who Osama Bin Laden was. I didn't know what the World Trade Center was. I didn't know what the magnitude of the events would really mean.
I did know that all the adults around me were stunned. I did know that all shows and sports were cancelled on TV for weeks and all that played was 9/11 coverage. I did know that I thought there was a scary man with a long beard named Osama hiding in my closet.

After being so consumed with watching the events unfold in the following weeks, I feel I began to learn to fear the world.
My small, 11 year old world was opened up to so much more.
My heart broke for the kids who lost their parents, the people I saw jumping from burning buildings, and the heart wrenching calls made from passengers on planes that were going down. And because of that...

I will NEVER forget.

Most people today couldn't tell you when Pearl Harbor was bombed. At the time, that event was just as surprising and devastating as 9/11 was. Following Pearl Harbor, our country entered the deadliest war in history, for the next four years. Brave men and women died fighting for our country and our freedom in two separate theatres. Sadly, these events do not earn the remembrance or respect that they so clearly deserve in today's society.

May our generations now work to preserve the memories and actions of those that died on September 11, 2001. (Rescue workers, police officers, firefighters, and brave volunteers)
May we remember the events that occurred that day the same on its 70th anniversary.
May our American pride continue to boast in strength and power as we continue to fight the war that now began 11 years ago following 9/11.
May we SUPPORT the selfless people still fighting this very moment.
MAY WE REMEMBER. Forever.

My handsome Marine who has dedicated the last seven years serving our country, including on two deployments.

What I Wore

Some of my favorite fashion blogs post pictures of their outfits every.single.day. And, without fail, every outfit is flawless and looks just perfect. How gorgeous are these girls:

While I would LOVE to say that I love what I wear each day, it just isn't realistic. There are some days I am lucky to have matching shoes on as I run out the door. These fashion bloggers certainly have pristine style and some very high end pieces. Maybe one day I will be a their level. haha

However, for me, I am starting out much simpler. And I am okay with that.

One of our spare bedrooms has full mirrored closet doors and since my husband leaves at 6am everyday, my only place for great outfit picture taking, is a classic mirror pic! Here are a few pics of recent outfits!

1. F21 top $13, Charming Charlie necklace $10, H&M skirt $25, Madden girl pumps $35 sale

I officially have less than three weeks left in California and am reminding myself to take advantage of the PERFECT So-Cal weather I have become so accustom to! I will have to start packing my wardrobe soon so outfit pictures might be limited over the next few weeks. Bare with me!

Black & BRIGHT

Two problems:
      1. I like black and white but it can become so monotonous.
      2. I love the current color trends but it can be tough to make it business appropriate for the office.

Solution: Black & Bright!

Pairing bright, trendy hues with staple black pieces can often bring the tone down, while still incorporating the fun of color! I was having a tough time figuring out ways to wear my corals, turquoise, and kelly greens. After a little pinterest searching and reviewing some of my favorite fashion blogs, I realized adding color put a new spin on the traditional black and white.
This is even a look I am rocking today :)

These are some great examples of black and bright, done right!

What ways do you incorporate the latest trends into work appropriate attire?

Online Shopping!

Yes, a girls favorite past-time. How amazing is it that we can shop, literally 24/7? I don't know how many times my grad papers are left untouched because I am busy pairing together outfits I wish I could buy!
While I love to shop an array of websites, I have a few boutiques that are my hands down favorites! To make it even easier, these boutiques are on Facebook and daily post photos of the new arrivals!
How much more tempting does it get? I jump on Facebook and an album pops up of the latest and greatest fashion!

To make it even easier, each boutique allows you to send in your information (credit card, address, etc.) and they save it. Then, when the fab albums are posted, you can simply comment Run and Ship! Oh, I love that phrase!
Then, a few days later, a lovely package appears on your doorstep!

Each of these boutiques are in Arkansas and ship around the country (lucky for me!). However, if anyone knows of a similar boutique in Oklahoma, please let me know! I need to find a place that sells some Boomer Sooner goodies! These places only have the silly WPS stuff ;)

First up- The Rage! (How cool is this name?!!?)
You can find them at Shop The Rage!

Next up is their sister store- The Elle!
You can find them at Shop The Elle!

Last but certainly not least- Riffraff
You can find them on Riffraff's Facebook Page!

So go, "like" all of these pages so that you too can see the new arrivals everyday and suffer the same temptations I do :) You will see many items from each store in my wardrobe!

Let me know what you think!
